1 Today!

I’m returning to the blog after a bit of a break on what is a a special day.  It’s special because my blog is one today – it’s one year since I took the plunge and published my very first post.  It’s my 1st blogiversary!

So in the spirit of a blogiversary I thought I’d do a bit of a review of the year.

Here are my reasons to celebrate:

  1.  I’m enjoying writing – I’d bored friends talking about wanting to write for years.  Now I am actually doing it.  I’m enjoying writing roughly on average a post a week.  It’s wonderful to be flexing my creative and intellectual muscles again.
  2. Readership is increasing month on month.  It may still be minuscule (thanks friends and fam for mostly driving this I’m sure :-)) but the WordPress stats bar chart is generally showing a monthly increase (apart from when I had a break in August and took my foot off the pedal a little in the run up to Christmas) which is really encouraging.  The most popular posts to date are:  8 Things I’ve Learned Being a Twin Mum, Anyone Else Feeling Frazzled Too? and Being Mindful About Mindsets.
  3. More and more people follow the blog on social media.  It has 1745 followers on Twitter, 420 on Facebook and having only just discovered Instagram this winter I’m pleased with 283  followers here.  Now I’m really not particularly bothered by follower number as such.  There’s lots of game playing and it can become very egocentric.  However, the more people who follow the blog, the more people are having a little bit of mindfulness magic sprinkled in their lives. And this, after all, is the aim.
  4. Following on from this I know the blog is making a difference – even if it’s just a little difference – to people’s lives.  A very close friend and work colleague has told me how much she has learned from the blog and Nicole’s guest post is a lovely endorsement of how reading this blog helped her discover mindfulness.
  5. The blog has pushed me on to do further training.  I am a qualified teacher of mindfulness to young people and am a mindfulness trainer of adults now too. See my website for more details.
  6. I’m a Huff Post blogger.
  7. I’m getting to grips (a little anyway) with the tech side of things (though coding still befuddles me) and ‘the look’ of the blog has come along way from the busy cloud background that I started out with.  Thanks to a friend I also have a funky logo now too.
  8. It’s been so lovely having some of my posts featured on different blogs this year.  See the badges proudly displayed on the sidebar of my homepage.
  9. I’ve ‘met’ (in virtual terms anyway) lots of really lovely people.  In fact there are some bloggers who now, if I haven’t read a post of theirs for a while, I begin to wonder how they and their family are!  I know this may sound odd to a person who isn’t a blogger but the blogging community, on the whole, is so friendly and welcoming that it is a pleasure to be a part of.  Here are just a few of the bloggers who I like to ‘check in with’ regularly as they come across so warmly and genuinely in their blogs.

Another happy by-product of the blog is re-connecting with an old school friend Jen who writes at Tripping Through Treacle with incredible honesty about living with MS.

So apart from a celebration of this blog being a year old today, this post is also a thank you to all of you who read and follow it.  I really do appreciate all the support and encouragement.

And if you’re thinking of giving me a pressie well I’ll let you into a secret….

I find it really hard to ask for shares and retweets etc. on social media.

I’d love to reach 500 likes on the blog’s Facebook page in order to continue to spread how passionate I am about people incorporating mindfulness into their lives.  So please, if you haven’t already done so, like the Facebook page. I’ll also be eternally grateful if you would consider sharing it with your mates and encouraging them to like it too.

Here’s to the next year of blogging AND continuing my mission to educate people about mindfulness and its benefits.

Thanks again for reading the blog.
