Words About the Weekend #3

In my introductory post to this new guest series I mentioned that ‘Words About The Weekend’ is a chance to be a bit nosey about other bloggers and what they get up to on a Saturday and Sunday.

The questions deliberately focus on principles of mindfulness – self-care, being present, appreciation and gratitude.

The third blogger to write a post for this series is Vicky from The Growing Mum.

How do you usually kick the weekend off on a Friday night?

Friday nights are usually date nights with my husband. It involves a meal (fancy home-cooked or takeaway), a few minutes of in-depth chat that’s different from “how was your day?” then either a game or a movie.

What do you usually do as a family at the weekend?  Any regular activities?

With having a little one around, we usually try to do one activity as a family that makes use of his abundant energy and gives us time together.

What does your partner or another member of the family regularly do for you on the weekend that you are appreciative of?

My husband usually does the food shopping which is a real help as I find it a bit stressful – even more so now that I’m expecting. He usually takes the little one with him so I get an hour of “me”  time.

How do you fit moments of self-care into the weekend?

I usually do the early shift when our toddler wakes up so I try to get the other half doing it either Saturday or Sunday just so I have a couple of hours to myself. When that doesn’t happen, I try to fit it in some relaxation time during toddler’s nap.

How do you make sure you slow down a little at the weekend?  Or re-connect with the family if it’s been a busy week with lots of people doing lots of different things?

At the weekend we only try to attend at most  2 social events and ideally all on one day so we can have the other day free to spend time with each other and recharge for the next week. It sometimes gets tricky when extended family and friends want us over for dinner but we try to adhere to our rule most of the time unless there’s a good reason – like family visiting from afar.

I’m sure you’ll agree some very sensible words from Vicky. Follow her on Facebook Instagram or Facebook.  If you’d like to take part in the guest series please email me at admin@missionmindfulness.co.uk.  Thank you!
handwritten Hayley

Love this series. It’s nice to see how others spend their weekend. Although I have to admit it makes me slightly jealous. With husband’s work he’s often not around at weekends and his hours change like the weather so our weekends are a lot more unplanned and spontaneous than most! #thesatsesh

Really loving this series, it totally satisfies my nosy tendencies. I would love someone to do the food shopping for me, it would stop me putting all that chocolate in there 😬

I’m another nosey one – this series is great. Please could I get involved one week (not for the next few weeks, though, I don’t think anyone wants to hear about my adventures in ferrying the kids around their classmates’ birthday parties)

Good idea to let your hubby do the shopping, and bring your little one along with him. Great to get some time to yourself x #thesatsesh
